Julie reminded us that Robert Downey Jr.'s character played piano and sang River during a Christmas episode in 2000.

As a side note from a December 2002 W Magazine interview:

"...she [Joni] just happened to catch while watching television. She calls Robert Downey Jr’s rendition of River on Ally McBeal “superb” and says, 'I’d rather have it be emotionally correct than have some great vocal athlete tear it up on it.' "
